Sweet New Business Blossoms Downtown

Sweet New Business Blossoms Downtown

(CHICAGO)—There’s a new place to discover bliss in the Loop.

Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique, specializing in fresh, blossoming cupcakes, will open its first retail location September 30. The inviting, sophisticated shop at 115 N. Wabash Ave., between Macy’s and Millennium Park, is the first to meet the needs of an office birthday celebration or a sweet tooth jonesing for a fix downtown.

Teresa Ging, owner of Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique, launched the catering and delivery side of the business in October 2007. She will mark the one-year anniversary of Sugar Bliss and the store’s grand opening with a month of special events in October.

Sugar Bliss bakes each cupcake from scratch daily in the kitchen on-site, using only high quality, natural ingredients such as European cocoa, Nielsen Massey Pure Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, and real strawberries, bananas and other fruit. Every extra-moist cupcake is decorated with the Sugar Bliss bloom, a blossom of rich, creamy frosting topped with a signature dot.

There are more than 20 flavors in the Sugar Bliss lineup, including Chocolate Cappuccino, Cinnamon Carrot, Texas Red Velvet and Lemon Drop. Sugar Bliss will offer 10 choices each day, along with seasonal flavors.

The new menu will include breakfast cupcakes each morning with real chunks of Blueberry, Cherry Raspberry, Cranberry Orange or other fruits inside. True butter-cream-and-sugar fiends can skip the cake and go right to the frosting shot, a small cup with a Bliss bloom inside. Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique will also offer mini cupcakes, 6-inch custom cakes, cupcake tiers, custom-colored frosting, cupcakes with custom logos and party-favor boxes. Guests can pair any treat with Sugar Bliss Signature Blend coffee, GuS Soda, milk, hot chocolate, tea or bottled water.

Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique will continue to offer delivery and catering services. Delivery zones and prices can be found on the website. In addition, specially-designed carrying boxes make it easy to take cupcakes to go. Orders can be placed online or by calling the cake boutique; large and custom orders require 48 hours’ notice.

The retail space, designed by Teresa Ging and Amy Miller of Applied Ergonomics, features rich chocolate brown and blue tones, a custom cupcake display case, and chocolate walnut cabinetry decorated with Ann Sacks penny round tile. There will be window seating inside for three and sidewalk seating during the summer.

Owner Teresa Ging left a position in finance in 2006 to pursue this dream, attending Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie program in Paris. When she returned to Chicago, she spent eight months testing cupcake recipes. Ging finalized the menu in August 2007 and has expanded her client base with corporate customers, hotels, event and wedding planners and catering companies. Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique also has participated in a variety of local charity events, including Great Chef’s Tasting (United Cerebral Palsy) and Shopping for Wishes (Make-A-Wish Foundation), and will continue to contribute to Chicago charitable organizations.

Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique will be located at 115 N. Wabash Ave., at the intersection of Washington Street and Wabash in the Chicago Loop. Store hours will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Really—you should call for a sample. A regular cupcake is half the size of a piece of cake. It’s portion-controlled indulgence … and sheer bliss!
